Yes, you discern correctly that this clapping potential is mostly related to member locked pieces. I believe that locked pieces are locked mostly because writers want to receive revenue. Intriguing that the more claps there are from a person who claps wildly and for many actually means less income.
And, it’s important to remember the algorithms are determined by other things that are not clapping, i.e. engagement, comments, etc.
It’s not about engaging less, it’s about engaging in a way that matters most if revenue is the goal. And, isn’t that inspiring to a writer, to earn money?
